Polypharmacy is becoming an epidemic in western society and the hazards are numerous. Older adults are disproportionally affected. This presentation will take an in depth look at what is creating this crises, the risks involved, and how to avert it. De-prescribing is getting a lot more attention in the literature and health care staff need to know what to do to assist in this movement.

Care Planning, Staff Competency, & Behavioral Health Requirements

This session will focus on the Comprehensive Care Plan, Staff Competency, and Behavioral Health Regulations, with a review of the regulations and an analysis of the associated Interpretive Guidance. A review of survey procedures used to guide the investigative process will be discussed. Actual citation examples will be shared and discussed. Tools to assist the facility interdisciplinary team in monitoring compliance and incorporating into the facility QAPI processes will be discussed.

New Topic Added – Understanding and Managing Pain

This session explores the etiology of pain and why we respond so differently to painful stimuli. Types of pain will be discussed and the role of both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies for pain management will be addressed.

A graduate of Wichita State University’s Math Education program, Addy is using her planning and organizational skills, creativity, and love of helping others to support our providers and members. First as Administrative Coordinator and now as Associate Director of Communications & Events, Addy’s primary duties include overseeing general member communications through social media, our Weekly Member Calls, the Aging Update, and database and website maintenance. She also collaborates with the team to plan, produce, and market events across all aspects of LeadingAge Kansas, manage Continuing Education processing.. Outside of the office, Addy enjoys crafting, playing board games, video games, and DnD, and spending time with her husband and their two cats.
