KMH, formerly Kansas Masonic Home, is proud to announce that Chief Executive Officer Matthew Bogner has obtained his Doctorate in Health Administration from Central Michigan University.

Dr. Bogner has been a part of the KMH leadership team for the past 7 years, spear-heading a $22 million dollar campus renovation at the well-known senior living community. His efforts included the implementation of the innovative “Household Model” of senior living in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing as well as the building of the brand-new Rapid Recovery Household for short-term rehabilitation. The shift to the household model is quite an undertaking for a community physically and culturally, where the physical environment is renovated from an institutional nursing home to small decentralized households that look and feel like homes in the outside community.  In addition, internal system changes occur to increase resident autonomy in regard to choice, decision making and self-determination. These changes led by Dr. Bogner have required an intense shift in mind-set and culture based on person-centered care, empowering frontline caregivers to lead and serve based on the desires of the residents. In turn, this shift also allows residents to stay fully engaged in making decisions about their lives. Dr. Bogner’s commitment to his education and growth has kept his community on the forefront of these exciting innovations in senior living.

While attending Central Michigan University, Dr. Bogner had the honor of having his case study based on KMH’s transformation and repositioning published in the college textbook “Multisector Casebook in Health Administration, Leadership and Management” by Delmar Cengage Learning. In addition, his dissertation has been published entitled “Nursing Staff Members’ Reactions to Household Model Implementation” which investigates the impact of household model implementation on direct care givers. Now students across the nation are learning about the hopeful and exciting direction in which senior living is headed from his enlightened research.

Preceding his time at KMH, Dr. Bogner served as Administrator of Newton Presbyterian Manor, in Newton, Kansas where he led similar culture change efforts. He also served as Epidemiologist for Sedgwick County Kansas, and worked for Via Christi Health System in Business Development and Mission Integration. As an avid learner, He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and his master’s degree in public health from Wichita State University, also completing year-long leadership fellowships with both state and national non-profit associations. Dr. Bogner lives with his wife and 2 children in Newton, Kansas.

The staff at LeadingAge Kansas would like to congratulate Matthew on this momentous milestone!
