Chef Torrey Hill won the title Master Chef and a $50 gift certificate by winning a Chef Cook-Off held in the Bistro at Tallgrass Creek retirement community. Nearly 100 people attended this event, which saw Chef Torrey compete against Chef Andy Ward.
Both Chefs were provided a mystery bag consisting of three items that needed to be included in their dish. The items were a beef tenderloin (that needed to be trimmed and cut) Sweet Potatoes, and Bok Choy.
Chef Torrey’s dish consisted of Seared Beef Tenderloin w/ Smoked Shrimp, Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Sautéed Bok Choy. Chef Andy’s dish consisted of Seared Beef Tenderloin with Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Southern Style Bok Choy.
Resident Jean Hershey assisted Chef Andy and resident Wanda Schwartz assisted chef Torrey. Executive Director Jean Landreville and resident Karen Cox (Resident) judged the event. The chefs’ dishes were judged based on Taste, Presentation, and Sanitation.
“This event helped give the chefs some exposure to the residents since the residents don’t always get the chance to see who cooks their food every day,” said Dining General Manager Katharine Taylor. “It was also an opportunity for the chefs to show off their skills to the rest of the staff and the residents.”
