Sunshine Meadows retirement Community in Buhler celebrated Nursing Home Week with daily activities for staff and residents. Each day’s theme, chosen by a group of residents and staff members, celebrated the human spirit.

On Monday, the office staff helped celebrate the Spirit of America with a “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” theme. An audience of residents, staff members, and family members enjoyed mini corn dogs, Cracker Jacks, and cherry limeades on a beautiful sunny day watching office staff and residents play baseball in the parking lot.

On Tuesday, the Spirit of Kansas was celebrated with Kansas symbols, the Wizard of Oz as interpreted by nursing staff members, and a presentation from Hutchinson’s Dillon Nature Center of animals indigenous to Kansas.

Wednesday took us to the Spirit of Buhler, our city, with the maintenance department’s “then and now” power point of how the town has changed over the years.

On Thursday, it was time for the Spirit of Sunshine Meadows, our home, with snacks and another power point program brought by the activities department of the changes made since the initial 1945 opening of the home.

Friday we wrapped it up with the Spirit of the Individual, the dietary department assisting with a picnic and funny games providing lots of laughs. Hilarious video highlights from the week can be found on the Sunshine Meadows Facebook page.
