The federal regulations for nursing homes are in full force and there is one last phase of implementation which includes a new survey process. Each resident care plan needs to include goals from the disciplines involved in the resident’s care that will ensure the best possible outcomes for the resident. Problems, goals, and approaches that take each individual resident’s preferences and needs into account are necessary to provide care and services that are trauma informed and culturally competent.

Trauma implications do not discriminate based on race, gender, socio-economic class, level of education or age. Addressing and treating trauma is an important part of providing behavioral health services in post-acute care. Phase 3 requirements include educating our staff to provide trauma-informed care.

Sufficient and Competent Staffing, Having a Plan for All Three F-Tags (F725, F741, & F802)
Do any of us believe we have the accurate number of staffing hours in a twenty-four-hour period to care for our residents? This session will provide ideas and guidance on employee engagement. The grass is not greener somewhere else, it’s just a different color with a different set of challenges.

QAPI – A Case Study for Quality Outcomes
Now that providers understand the five elements of implementing a QAPI program in post-acute care, it will be helpful to roll up your sleeves and perform a root cause analysis. This session will examine the process of identifying an area of deficient practice and working through systems review and improvement.

March 5, 2019 | 2:00-3:00pm
The Infection Preventionist Role in QAPI
The regulatory guidance under F868 requires the Infection Preventionist to be an integral part of the QAPI Committee. It will be the responsibility of the Infection Preventionist to participate in and report to the QAPI Committee Infection Prevention and Control activities in the nursing home. The role also includes reporting and monitoring transmission-based precautions and antibiotic stewardship.

Compliance and Ethics in Long Term Care
Phase 3 regulatory guidance requires nursing homes to have an effective ethics and compliance program. They must provide compliance and ethics education for all staff working in nursing homes annually. Long term care facilities must establish written compliance and ethics standards, policies, and procedures.

April 2, 2019 | 2:00-3:00pm
Phase 3 Training Requirements for SNFs
Long term care facilities have new requirements for training under Phase 3. Nursing Homes must develop, implement, and maintain an effective training program for all new and existing staff; individuals providing services under a contractual arrangement; and volunteers, consistent with their expected roles.

Continuing Education:
This educational event has been approved for up to 7.0 continuing education hours in the core of Administration for Licensed Adult Care Home Administrators, Adult Care Home Operators and Dietitians by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services. Health Occupations and Credentialing approved provider number (LTS A0009).

LeadingAge Kansas is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering is approved for 7.0 contact hours applicable for APRN, RN, LPN or LMHT relicensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing provider number: LT0102-1116.

Other disciplines will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
