We want to make all members aware of a recent fraudulent email circulating regarding hotel reservations for the LeadingAge Kansas Spring Conference. One of these messages was brought to our attention, and after review, we can confirm that it is not legitimate.

These emails are an example of a common third-party scam known as “room poaching.” In this scheme, outside companies pose as official hotel partners and attempt to trick attendees into providing personal or payment information.

What to Watch For

The fraudulent message displayed several warning signs, including:

  • It was sent from an unfamiliar domain not associated with LeadingAge Kansas or Hilton.
  • The room rates and descriptions did not match any officially contracted hotel blocks.
  • The included link directed recipients to a document-signing website, not a hotel reservation system.
  • Hilton’s revenue manager confirmed they have no relationship with the vendor sending these messages.

How to Stay Safe

If you receive an email like this, please delete it immediately and avoid clicking any links.

We also want to emphasize that we have not yet released any information about our 2026 conference—including lodging details. If you ever receive communication claiming to offer early reservations or special rates for 2026, please disregard it. You will be the first to know when official information is available.

Official conference lodging information will always come directly from Hilton Garden Inn or LeadingAge Kansas, and we will continue to remind attendees to use only our verified booking links.

If you have questions about accommodations or need assistance confirming whether a message is legitimate, we’re here to help.

Thank you for staying vigilant and helping keep our community safe!
