The Kansas Fire Marshal has asked us to share some helpful resources with you this week.

The first is The Checklist.  This booklet is used as a guideline to help life safety code inspectors.  Please note there are other things in the LSC that can be cited that may not be listed on the checklist.  It is always a good idea for facilities to have a copy of NFPA LSC 101, 2012 edition.  This way there is no question if it is in the code or not.

The second is a fillable Variance Request Form for Assisted Living and Residential Board and Care to use on the lock/delayed egress issue.  One thing you may want to do is type a cover letter explaining any details that will help the fire marshal’s office to understand the situation.  If it is dealing with locks you may want to attach a code footprint showing where the locks are located.
