Tallgrass Creek Residents are “Wild About Harry” During Harry Truman’s Presidential Debate with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Their Campus in Overland Park, KS
About 100 Tallgrass Creek retirement community residents today were “Wild About Harry” when President Truman, accompanied by his wife Bess, visited their campus to debate Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
President Truman (aka Niel Johnson), Bess Truman (aka Nancy Cramer), Hillary Clinton (aka Heather Lawler) and Donald Trump (aka Joseph Fournier) participated in a “Give ‘em Hell, Harry!” event co-sponsored by Tallgrass Creek and the Truman Library Institute. They debated foreign, domestic and economic policy issues.
George Lund, who as a teenager was President Truman’s newspaper delivery boy, attended, as did Judy Turner, who was the next door neighbor of the Trumans in Independence, MO. Nadine Nesbitt, a former medical technologist at Research Hospital when President Truman was a patient for gall bladder surgery, also attended.
This one-hour event featured a bourbon and water toast to President Truman and the group singing of “I’m Just Wild About Harry.” It also included stories of the Truman years by Tallgrass Creek residents.
President Truman urged everyone to vote.
