HHS Office of Inspector General released an updated work plan on January 16th detailing two new audits related to nursing homes. OIG will audit the Part B billing of optometrists for nursing home residents to ensure proper documentation and billing practices in a report expected in 2024. Separately, OIG will investigate states’ use of third-party contractors to conduct nursing home surveys to ensure CMS is providing proper oversight of this practice. This report is expected in 2025.
