We received word from another association last week that the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office has begun wearing body cameras during surveys and inspection visits with healthcare providers. Initial concerns regarding resident privacy were raised by several healthcare associations and LeadingAge Kansas reached out to the Fire Marshal’s office for clarification. The office has stated this is for the protection of their staff from “liability, verbal complaint and-or false allegations and property destruction.”

LeadingAge Kansas is continuing conversations around this change to ensure resident privacy is of the utmost priority, but wanted to share this update with providers who may have an upcoming Fire Marshal visit. Contact Kylee Childs with any questions or feedback.
