MDS v 1.19.1 will take effect October 1, 2024. The update will include 3 changes: removal of the self-care/mobility discharge goal item based on finalization of measure changes in the FY 2024 SNF PPS rule, addition of a resident COVID vaccination status item related to measure finalization in the FY 2024 SNF PPS rule, and addition of a new high-risk drug classification row for anti-convulsant medications. Draft item sets and measure specs will be released in early 2024.

CMS will also release information in early 2024 about any changes to NHSN reporting based on addition of the new resident COVID vaccination status measure. An updated MDS Error Message Guide is expected to be released to the QTSO site by the end of December. Until the updated Error Message Guide is released, providers can email the iQIES Service Center at (800) 339-9313 or by email at iqies@cms.hhs.gov with any error message questions.
