CMS announced on the SNF Open Door Forum on December 7th that they will begin conducting survey testing on select surveys over the next few months and into 2024. State survey agencies will be testing new approaches to survey that would make the survey process more efficient and potentially reallocate survey resources away from low-risk nursing homes toward higher-risk nursing homes. CMS declined to provide more information on these approaches or the survey testing process, but stated that as a result, nursing homes may observe additional staff on site during surveys and/or changes to typical survey procedures. We invite members to share any observations and survey experiences that may be related by emailing Kylee Childs
