Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) introduced new legislation to strengthen the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). H.R. 6655, A Stronger Workforce for America Act aims to expand the skill development opportunities, strengthen the relationship between employers and the workforce system, and put more Americans on the pathway to successful careers through upskilling, improved efficiency and empowering states, workforce boards and job seekers.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was enacted in 2014 and made crucial improvements to streamline the maze of federal workforce development programs and enhance accountability. Nearly ten years since its inception, WIOA is in significant need of modernization to meet the demands of employers and workforce development programs in a post Covid-19 world.
