On March 29, LeadingAge met with the White House’s Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Intergovernmental and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), the Domestic Policy Council, the National Economic Council, HHS, and CMS about the Minimum Staffing Standards for Long-Term Care Facilities and Medicaid Institutional Payment Transparency Reporting proposed rule. The proposed rule has been in the final state of clearance at OIRA since March 1.

At the meeting, LeadingAge presented current challenges nursing homes face, including the dire workforce crisis and dwindling reimbursement. Using staffing and labor cost data, LeadingAge emphasized our position that the staffing mandate as proposed will not be implementable and will effectively limit access to mission-driven nursing home care by older adults. The meeting also gave LeadingAge the opportunity to bring forward solutions, including current legislation we support to expand the aging services workforce. There were no questions from the Administration during the meeting, which is on the public record.
