Bathing alternatives are an important tool to eliminate this caregiving challenge. In this learning lab, you will get hands-on instruction in several key bathing alternative methods known to enhance person-centered care practices. You will also receive tools to take back to your organizations for immediate use.
Introduction to Mental Health First Aid: Caring for the Older Adult

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In this session you will learn what mental health first aid is and will be introduced to the MHFA action plan as it relates to caring for older adults with mental illness and substance use disorders.
Practical Behavioral Management Strategies for Clients with Dementia – Presentation and Simulation

Dementia related behaviors is a common challenge faced by long term care staff. It results in frustration, staff turnover, falls and other injuries. Creativity and good problem-solving skills represents our greatest asset in dealing with behaviors. This presentation will focus on practical tips for engaging with our clients who suffer from dementia. Participants will work though case studies in small groups and simulate the scenario with possible responses.
