This month, our education offerings are diving into CMS hot topics to help your community continue to provide stellar care today while planning for the future of the organization.

April 22: Value Based Care Virtual Learning Series

On April 22, join us at 1:00 pm for the first session of our Value Based Care Virtual Learning Series, developed and facilitated by Peter Benjamin of Huntington Consulting Group, where you will be guided through the complexities of Medicare Advantage and Managed Medicaid. Learn about the major Medicare Advantage plan types, including Special Needs Plans, factors that influence how the plans operate, how providers participate, and key decision-making considerations for enrollees. The session will also explore the implications of Managed Medicaid for senior living providers.

This will be the first of five Core Module sessions in the Value Based Care Learning series, with additional sessions on Medicare ACO Programs, Frail Elder Physician Practices, Hospice, and PACE, running throughout May and June. The series will return in the fall for 3 more Enhanced Module sessions, covering hospitals, other Medicare Value Based Programs, and the pharmacy market.

This program will enable participants to utilize an understanding of Medicare and Medicaid value-based programming to improve the overall economic performance of their communities.  70% of Medicare participants are in value-based programs.  In most States, over 75% of Medicaid participants are in value-based programs. ALF and SNF owners must understand value-based programming to be successful now and in the future. Each session, including sessions on hospice, PACE, and physician services, will focus on the interactions between nursing facilities and these service types.

We are excited to offer this series as a no-cost benefit for LeadingAge Kansas members. All you need to do to participate is register here.

April 29 & 30: Joint Provider Surveyor Training

Our annual Joint Provider Surveyor Training is back on April 29 and 30 to provide your IDT teams with a full-continuum exploration and approach to falls management, along with updates from KDADS on top-cited deficiencies, the Special Focus Facility (SFF) program, and iQIES. Joint Provider will primarily feature an interactive, workshop style training, led by Lisa Thomson and Colleen Toebe with Pathway Health, and broken into four focus sessions including:

  • Foundations of Falls Prevention – Risk, Impact, & QAPI Integration
  • Post-Fall Processes – Standards, Response, & System Evaluation
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) – Looking Beyond the Incident
  • Moderated Panel Discussion – Perspectives from the Field
    • This session will feature voices from both SNF and SLO settings, as well as surveyor perspectives.

Interested members can choose between three attendance options to support accessibility, including Manhattan on April 29 and Wichita/Virtual on April 30. We hope you consider bringing several members of your team to support all areas of fall prevention and share the tools and best practices back in your building. You can read more about the upcoming Joint Provider and register here.
