Locust Grove Village recently celebrated its 40th year of service in Rush County with a Fall Festival event for the whole community! It was held Sunday, October 28 from 4- 7 pm on the grounds of the LGV Campus.
The event featured entertainment by the Hot Shots Polka Band and Uncalled 4 Barbershop Quartet. Free hot dogs, brats, chips, cookies and drinks were served. A team of Clydesdale horses provided wagon rides. In addition, the event featured a cupcake walk; bounce house; s’mores and decorated pumpkin contest for kids.
“This was our way to say a big THANK YOU to our community friends, business partners, family, staff and supporters”, noted Charlotte Rathke, Administrator.
The Rush County Nursing Home Society came about due to the foresight of 16 Rush County persons who joined forces in 1978 to establish the not for profit organization with a 60 bed nursing home.
Over the years services have expanded to include a 16 unit Independent living retirement apartment complex and 14 units of Assisted living. The nursing home has adjusted to market demands with more private rooms, decreasing overall occupancy to 44, which includes Medicare and Medicaid program certification.
The organization is operated under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors which currently includes Kevin Moeder, Chairman; Ruth Baalmann, Secretary; Dr. Leo Herrman, Member and Tonya Basgall, Member. The administrator is Charlotte Rathke, serving since 2004. Plans are in development to upgrade and renovate the 40 year old nursing home building.
“We look forward to the next 40 years serving Rush County and the central Kansas elders”, Rathke commented. “We had a great day – beautiful weather, super turnout and a lot of fun for all”, Rathke added.
