The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) today issued a joint letter concerning responsibilities under the Nursing Home Reform Act (NHRA), Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA), and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).  The letter, along with a CFBP Issue Spotlight and Circular 2022-05, were released in conjunction with CFPB’s convening of a field hearing this afternoon (that included LeadingAge member and past Board Chair Carol Silver-Elliott) to explore challenges around nursing home debt collection practices.  LeadingAge staff will review these materials and provide additional information in the coming days.
