LeadingAge National has heard from some members across the country about problems regarding delays and complications securing DME for Medicare residents.  In response, they contacted CMS for recommendations on how to guide members and what recourse there is when encountering these types of problems. Following is a summary and links to resources provided by CMS that may be of help if you are experiencing delays, problems with delivery, complications with extensive paperwork being rejected, etc.

DME Competitive Bidding Program: Resources/Contact Information
CMS provided the following resources that may be of help if you are experiencing problems with DME suppliers:

  • This link will take you to the list of the regional Competitive Bidding Liaisons. We’ve been advised that both providers and beneficiaries should feel free to contact of the individuals in their respective areas for assistance, complaints, etc.
  • This link is to the Supplier Directory, where a beneficiary’s zip code can be entered to find contract suppliers.  It includes both competitive and non-competitive bid categories and examples of the types of equipment/devices in each category.  Up to five items can be selected; click “Search” at the bottom of the page for suppliers. Competitive bid supplier information is updated on a weekly basis.
