KFMC Health Improvement Partners and Kansas Department of Health and Environment Healthcare-Associated Infections & Antimicrobial Resistance Program are pleased to be able to provide a facilitated infection prevention training opportunity to healthcare workers in communal living settings. Project Firstline, training developed by the CDC, consists of short videos, followed by group discussion. This comprehensive infection control program is designed to provide foundational and practical knowledge to front line workers. We encourage you to gather your team and take advantage of this 8 week “Lunch and Learn” series to increase your infection prevention knowledge. Participants will learn the “why” behind infection control to give them the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions to keep themselves, their coworkers and residents/clients safe. Over an eight week period attendees will spend 30 minutes per week focusing on the following topics:

  • The Concept of Infection Control – Basic ideas behind infection control and how infection control actions help keep you, your residents, your coworkers and your community safe.
  • Basic Science of Viruses – Learn about viruses and how to understand the differences between the virus and the disease.
  • How Respiratory Droplets Spread COVID-19 – Review what respiratory droplets are and how they matter in transmission of disease and why infection control actions help.
  • How Viruses Spread from Surfaces to People – Mechanism of spread from surface contamination is discussed
  • How COVID-19 Spreads: A Review – How COVID-19 is spread.
  • PPE Part 1: Eye Protection – What PPE is and how it works for infection control and focuses on eye protection.
  • PPE Part 2: Gloves & Gowns – Role of gloves and gowns and “dos and don’ts” for using them at work every day.
  • Hand Hygiene – Importance of having clean hands in healthcare, reviews how and why germs can be spread by hands and practice supporting good hand hygiene practices at work.
