Last week, LeadingAge Kansas submitted comments on the proposed APS rule that will establish a minimum floor of state requirements in responding to abuse and neglect of elders and standardize definitions across all 50 states. While state agencies can choose not to follow the rule and its provisions, it will result in no federal funding from the Administration for Community Living. LeadingAge Kansas identified concerns with collaborating with the Kansas APS department for referrals on guardianship, financial exploitation of a family member not residing in the facility, and lack of timely after-hours responses in urgent situations.
