Don’t miss the Hands-On Caregiver Workshop, June 7th in Newton, Kansas. This training is worth up to 6.5 CE hours at a great price and will focus on Person-Center Care, Dementia and a Skills Fair.

This training is focused towards CNAs, CMAs and RAs. Others are welcome to attend, but this educational opportunity has been planned specifically for hands-on caregivers.

Topics to be covered:

Family Matters: Creating Person Centered Care Partners
Stephanie Gfeller & Judly Miller, Kansas State Center on Aging
Many discussions about person-centered care that include the family are focused on the challenges of working with family members or how they stand in way of person-centered care. Not this one! Stephanie and Judy will explore the importance of creating person-centered care partners out of resident family members. The barriers that make this relationship difficult and solution for overcoming those will be discussed. Individualized care plans and acceptance of risk are critical pieces of person-centered care and they will show you how family care partners can be an integral part of the process.

Understanding Dementia and Caring for Those Who Have It
Amy Siple MSN, FNP-BC; Newman University
Understanding dementia is key to being able to care for those who have it. This presentation will review the most common types of dementia and help participants understand why challenging behaviors occur. Strategies will be explored regarding the best way to interact with someone with dementia and tips for de-escalating someone with agitation will be demonstrated.

Skills Fair
Jeanne Miles & Stacey Lewis, Hutchinson Community College
This will be an opportunity for training on best practices and a skills refresher on UTIs, peri care, handwashing/waterless hand cleaners, performing a manual blood pressure check, oral care, falls, and depression.
