On May 8th, KING held its 29th Annual Meeting during the LeadingAge Kansas Spring Conference in Wichita. After a delicious lunch, members received the annual financial and investment report, and the Third Party Administrator report from Ed Reasoner with Thomas McGee Group. Ed’s report included slides that illustrated the historical performance of KING as well as state trends. The KING Board Class of 2022 was elected including Beth Green (2nd term), Administrator at Homestead Health Center; and  Diana Thompson (1st full term), Administrator at Pioneer Lodge. Kevin McFarland recognized several KING members for their excellence in loss control during the 2018-19 policy year.

Village Shalom was recognized as a Gold Level Member of KING’s new Safety Designation Program. Randy Sexton with Safety National, KING’s excess insurance carrier, presented an award to KING commemorating 20 consecutive years of coverage. Safety National also made a $2,000 contribution to LeadingAge Kansas Foundation.

During the KING Board meeting held on May 7th, Michael Smith was elected Chair of the Board for the 2019-20 year. Beth Green was elected Secretary/Treasurer.

Kevin McFarland is the President and CEO of KING. As President/CEO of the KING Workers’ Compensation Program, Kevin built and refined the program during his nearly forty-year tenure at LeadingAge Kansas. Not one to back away from a new venture, Kevin also took on management of LeadingAge Kansas Employee Benefits, Inc. (EBI) in 2023 as Executive Director. A 1982 graduate of Kansas State University, Kevin began his career in aging services as a Social Worker for current member, Meadowlark Hills, and to this day, maintains his Social Work license, in addition to being a licensed insurance agent. Kevin frequently engages with his community by facilitating current events discussion groups at Topeka member organizations and the Shepherd’s Center of Topeka, and by serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. David’s Episcopal Church.
