LeadingAge clarified with CDC on March 8 that the second COVID shot recommended on February 28 for adults aged 65 and older is required for these individuals to be considered up to date with COVID vaccination. Seeing how this recommendation comes in the middle of the quarter, nursing homes should continue to use this surveillance definition for determining up to date status until the end of the reporting quarter on March 31. Beginning with reporting week April 1 – 7, individuals aged 65 years and older will be reported “up to date” only if they have received the second 2023/2024 COVID shot.
