KSFM Shares Letter on Variances for Electronic Locking Systems

The Fire Marshal’s office has shared the attached letter regarding the potential consideration of variances for electronic door locking systems. This letter was developed in response to a request made during the Government Efficiency committee meeting by the healthcare associations and Committee Chairperson, Senator Shane.

The letter does not grant an automatic variance. It simply outlines that a variance may be considered on a case-by-case basis when a facility can demonstrate compliance with the applicable provisions of the 2024 education of NFPA 101. It also recognizes that local jurisdictions retain the authority to adopt or enforce more restrictive requirements.

Reach out to us if you have questions about the contents of the letter and its impacts.
