Legislature Still Gearing Up for Legislation

Legislative committees met this week to hear informational presentations as they wait for new pieces of legislation to be drafted and introduced. In Kansas, legislative bills exist on a two year cycle.  This year is the top of the biennium and so the session usually gets off to a slower start because all bills old and new have to be drafted and (re)introduced.  LeadingAge Kansas is using the time to meet with legislators on our priorities and prepare for the long term care informational sessions starting next week.

Bills Introduced

  • SB 6 Restricting the authority of the secretary of health and environment and local health officers to prevent the introduction and spread of infectious or contagious diseases
  • SB 62 Enacting the protect vulnerable adults from financial exploitation act
  • HB 2023 Creating the crime of interference with the conduct of a hospital
  • HB 2049 Changing the length of the nurse aide course required for unlicensed employees in adult care homes to 75 hours

Coming Up Next Week

  • January 23: Hearing on HB 2023 in House Judiciary Committee
  • January 26: LK/KHCA Joint Presentation to House Health and Human Services Committee
