And experience higher employee and resident satisfaction/retention with the Age and Ability Inclusion Toolkit for Senior Living.

A 2020 study published in Innovation in Aging found that those employees who have lower internalized aging anxiety and higher affinity for older people were significantly associated with higher levels of job satisfaction. And happier employees means happier residents. The bottom line? Building awareness about the negative impacts of ageism and ableism is a win for all involved.

These past two years, we’ve been in crisis and we’ve been in safety mode. Now is the time to harness the joy of our work. We know that an organization that is age and ability inclusive, where that mission threads through the soul of the organization, can experience better recruitment and retention.

I’m writing today to share an opportunity to take yourself and your work to the next level. Ageism and ableism are barely visible to us but they do harm. You can strengthen your community, your services for residents, your staff, and yourself by being age and ability inclusive — everybody wins.
