Leadership at the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADs) shared feedback on trends they are seeing in surveys and incident reports. The agency shared that they are completing surveys about 6 to 7 months behind schedule and there has been an uptick in IJ complaints, predominantly self-reported by facilities, which has led the agency to refer to the KBI for Medicaid Fraud investigations. Some of the examples shared were:

  • Elopements
  • One-person lifts
  • Medication errors resulting in death

The breakdown leading to IJ reports seems to be occurring internally at facilities and may be related to staffing issues that permeate other standards such as training or supervision.

LeadingAge Kansas is looking at educational opportunities for members to prevent further IJ reports.
