Medical insurance and Medicaid and stethoscope. Medicine doctor working with computer interface as medical

Last Friday, KDHE provided an update to associations on aged Medicaid applications. The state agency said they anticipate a drop in aged applications with the additional steps they have put in place to focus on processing new applications.

  • 322 cases between 45-90 days
    • 55 NF cases
    • 129 HCBS cases
    • 36 LTC cases
    • 62 working healthy cases
    • 38 spousal unknown cases
    • 1 PACE case
  • 12 cases between 90-180 days
  • 1 case over 180 days

KDHE emphasized providers using the portal to upload relevant documents to prevent processing delays. Additionally, nursing facilities should email their designated unit to ensure an eligibility supervisor receives the email and the information is processed timely. The state recognizes there is a lack of training and support system in place for providers needing assistance with processing HCBS applications and are working internally to identify how to remedy that issue. They are seeing an increase in the number of HCBS applications being denied for being over resources.

We have compiled information from members along with data shared by KDHE to speak on this issue at the Bob Bethell Joint Committee on Thursday, August 3rd. If you need assistance with expediting an aged application, please contact Kylee Childs
