The transition from the old social security-based Medicare numbers to the new Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) ends next week. If providers do not use the MBI on claims (with only a few exceptions) starting January 1, their claims will be rejected. Providers can look up MBIs for residents on the portal of their Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). More info on MBIs.
