On January 30th, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its Job Opening and Turnover Survey for December 2023. Job openings rose slightly to 9.03 million up from 8.93 million in November 2023. Turnover related to terminations, layoffs and voluntary separations was largely unchanged. Elizabeth Renter, Data Analyst at NerdWallet noted that “Employers aren’t cutting people loose at a significant rate, and workers are no longer job-switching in pursuit of greener pastures.”
