Legislative Update

Last week was packed with budget hearings, as the House Social Services Budget Committee finalized recommendations for KDHE and KDADS on February 3-4. Chairman Buehler presented these to House Appropriations on Friday, February 7. Given the size of the budgets and time constraints, they were adopted, but additional motions on specific line items are expected this week.

Meanwhile, Senate Ways and Means held hearings on contract nursing costs in state hospitals and HCBS waivers. In House Taxation, a hearing on the Aging Services Preceptor Income Tax Incentive took place on February 5. Since this committee is exempt, the bill can continue moving forward even if no final action is taken before turnaround.

Additionally, several bills previously with the Revisors office were dropped last Friday and are now ready for introduction, which could lead to schedule adjustments this week as committees work to fit in more hearings before turnaround.
