Your LeadingAge Kansas Board met on December 4th in Topeka to look toward the 2019 Kansas Legislative Session and set overarching priorities for advocacy.

The board decided that LeadingAge Kansas will take a LEAD position (i.e. maximum organizational effort – assume a visible and active role and expend significant time, energy and grassroots power to advance):

  • Rebase and full funding of Medicaid nursing home rates
  • Call for reform of the Office of the Fire Marshal’s application of the survey and enforcement process
  • Systemic correction of the 3+ year failure of the Medicaid eligibility determination process

LeadingAge Kansas will ENGAGE (i.e. Moderate organizational effort – not necessarily as the lead advocacy entity, but rather targeted activity such as coalition membership, collaborative advocacy efforts, contribution of information and/or written testimony):

  • Oversight of temporary long-term care staffing agencies
  • Reform of the Informal Dispute Resolution process
  • Increasing the Protected Income Limit for HCBS consumers
  • Workers’ compensation insurance reform
  • Medicaid expansion

LeadingAge Kansas will MONITOR (i.e. Minimal organizational effort, active tracking, weigh in if deemed necessary):

  • Stricter vetting of adult care home companies that seek to operate in Kansas
  • Creation of a mid-level dental practitioner professional credential

More detail will be forthcoming. As usual, LeadingAge Kansas will be relying heavily on members for grassroots advocacy.
