LeadingAge Kansas is on an all-out advocacy campaign with our Members of Congress and the Trump Administration Transition Team to alert them to:

  1. CMS’s recent escalation of nursing home survey and enforcement actions and the severe negative impact on the people we serve, our organizations, and local communities in your district, and
  2. the tremendous new regulatory burden that is being foisted upon long term care providers in their districts by CMS.

Thanks to David Beck, CEO of Brewster Place and Kevin Reimer, CEO of Pleasant View Home, for issuing the invitations that led to meetings with Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins and Congressman-Elect Ron Marshall.  A small group of members and Rachel Monger, our Director of Government Affairs, did an outstanding job in the meetings of describing the problems and telling frontline stories of negative impacts.  They urged the lawmakers to use their positions of influence and power to reel in CMS’s draconian enforcement approach and regulatory overreach. Meetings are also being requested with Senators Roberts and Moran, and Congressmen Yoder and Pompeo.

In related news, the LeadingAge Kansas Board recently approved a letter to be sent to President-Elect Trump’s Transition Team. The letter contains a number of important recommendations for Executive Actions, regulatory actions and Congressional actions to address problems, primarily with CMS. The letter is being shared with Members of Congress and the Governor with the request that they share it directly with the Trump Transition Team.
