Providers Still Facing Struggles with KDADS New Criminal Record Check Program
We are hearing providers are still facing struggles with the new CRC program that rolled out right ahead of Thanksgiving. Some feedback we’ve receive is the “system is very clunky” and significant lags. Here’s some tips from a provider who feels they’ve figured out how to navigate within the current system:
If you’re submitting a CRC for someone for the first time and get stuck, double-check their address information. We found the system would not allow us to click the “Request CRC” button until the address was fully updated—on a separate screen. Once the address was saved, we had to navigate back to the background check section to submit the CRC.
The workflow doesn’t move in a straight line, so expect to jump between multiple screens before you can complete the request.
If you are still facing struggles, email KDADS at kdads.crcstaff@ks.gov. Feel free to Cc Kylee Childs on there as well.
No News on DCF Background Check Updates
We first received communications in September from KDADS that DCF was updating their process for submitting Adult and Child Registry checks. In that original email, it shared that DCF would release a step-by-step guide to support this transition, but the start date for the new process was unknown.
Fast forward to December 15, 2025, the guide is now available. You can access that here. It is expected these changes will roll out January 1 at the start of the new year. As always, there will probably be issues as there typically are with any new transition. Email Kylee Childs with anything you encounter.
Vacation Ahead of Session
Kylee is taking vacation over the holidays ahead of the legislative session. She will be out December 22 through January 5. She will return to the office on January 6. If you have anything that needs immediate attention and cannot wait for her return, just reach out to her via email or text. Otherwise, there may be a delay in responses until she returns to the office. Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
