State Licensed Only Providers: Updated Visitation Guidance
Updated Visitation Guidance was released by KDADS today for state licensed only homes. You can find it here. The guidance was updated to include replacing the utilization of Kansas Department of Health and Environments county positivity rate to help determine visitation decision to the Center for Disease Control county transmission rate as well as a new essential care give section. Please send any questions or concerns to kdads.reopening@ks.gov.

CARE/PASSR Program Updates
The CARE Program staff have provided the following updates for providers.

  • Resident Reviews: These were not a part of the PASRR Suspension COVID Guidelines that ended in June 2021, PLEASE check your records and ensure that if your level II Person had a Temporary Level II PASRR, that you have followed up with us and completed a Resident Review. We are missing MANY Resident Reviews and this is causing nursing facilities and nursing facilities for mental health, delays in payment from Medicaid and can get you a C-Tag from the State of Kansas during survey.
  •  Out of State PASRR: Some states are not completing the PASRR at this time due to the 1135 waiver and COVID Issues, so if you have someone coming from another state, at this time we know for sure this is happening in Colorado, send us the letter they are issuing in place of PASRR, and then your facility will have 30 days to get the Kansas Level I CARE Assessment on file if the person stays past 30 days from Admission. We haven’t seen this from any other state but Colorado at this time, but that doesn’t mean it won’t show up, we just wanted you to be aware.

FDA Investigation of Imported Medical Gloves
The FDA is investigating certain imported medical gloves  that appear to have been reprocessed, cleaned or recycled and sold as new. The FDA has determined that many foreign manufacturers and shippers of medical gloves have failed to consistently provide medical gloves of adequate quality for distribution in the United States. The FDA recommends that health care facilities and providers do not purchase or use imported medical gloves from companies included on Import Alert 80-04 Surveillance and Detention Without Physical Examination of Surgeon’s and Patient Examination Gloves and report any problem with medical gloves.

ACIP’s Interim Recommendations for Additional Primary and Booster Doses of COVID-19 Vaccines
The CDC released an MMWR on the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) interim recommendations for additional primary and booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines in 2021. In the United States, three COVID-19 vaccines are approved or authorized for primary vaccination against COVID-19. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issued recommendations for an additional primary mRNA COVID-19 vaccine dose for immunocompromised persons and a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose in eligible groups. Health care professionals play a critical role in COVID-19 vaccination efforts, including for primary, additional primary, and booster vaccination, particularly to protect patients who are at increased risk for severe illness and death.
