LeadingAge Kansas personnel, along with representatives from KHCA and KACE, met with KDHE personnel recently regarding the Clearinghouse. We shared concerns with KDHE, gathered from members, regarding the inaccuracy of Patient Liabilities, continued communication issues with the Clearinghouse, and the continued slowness of the process. While the liaison program has helped in some ways, the progress has not been maintained.

KDHE is currently negotiating with Maximus, the contractor for the Clearinghouse, and is working on making significant changes. The initial plan will be to make changes in training and quality processes. They are also piloting an Upload Portal for form submittal.

KDHE did ask us to share information with members regarding Review Applications. Residents under review will receive a prepopulated form in the mail, listing required documents. This form has bar codes on it for the forms, and KDHE asks that facilities that are assisting families obtain and use that form for submitting documentation. This will speed up the process.

Thank you to all the members that provided input for this meeting. Your concerns were shared and were so helpful. Having member information to share with them shows the extent of the issues and helps identifies trends. We will continue to advocate on this issue.
