The Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (OIG), together with the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), recently issued a resource guide designed to facilitate health care organizations’ ability to measure the effectiveness of their compliance program. The guide includes ideas as to what and how to measure the effectiveness of all seven elements of a compliance plan.

Providers can select the ideas that work best for their particular program.  Both OIG and HCCA cautioned that the guide is not intended to be applied wholesale as a template or best practice.  However, the guide should be used in conjunction with the recently-released U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) guidance questions and other resources to tailor an effective method of measuring effectiveness.
