Ten elders who “graduated” from their therapy regimens within the last year or so are being recognized by the staff at SunPorch of Dodge City.
Each person is receiving a certificate of completion and tee-shirt for their therapeutic successes.
“Some people are surprised that we offer short-term stays here at SunPorch,” said Debbie Allen, marketing and community liaison. “Yes, we provide full-time residency for those who need long-term care. But when someone needs our in-house services for a few weeks or a few months, we can oblige.”
One graduate, Darlene Elledge, received her certificate at a recent chili dinner for nearly 50 elders and their families at SunPorch; Allen is delivering nine more certificates.
The average length of stay at SunPorch for the grads was 42 days; some stayed fewer than 20 days.
Recent examples of short-term stays involved: men who had knee replacements; a woman and man who needed post-surgical rehabilitation; and a woman who had a hip replacement. Therapy patients regularly share positive feedback about their experiences at SunPorch, Allen said.
“The length and type of therapy regimen always depends on the person’s specific needs,” she noted. “But the goal is always the same – to increase stamina, balance and strength so they can return home and safely enjoy their regular activities.
“People oftentimes believe that if they enter a long-term-care residence, they will never go home,” Allen added. “On the contrary, our skilled care can prepare you for a safe return to your home where you can enjoy more independence.”
Physical, occupational and speech therapies are offered on-site at SunPorch, 501 W. Beeson.
