Last Friday,  a crowd of over 400 people had their first look at Schowalter Villa’s new community building on the corner of Hickory and Main Street. The grand opening event for Mullet Place at Schowalter Villa included a dedication ceremony and open house, along with a tasting from Hesston Bakery & Cafe, which will open on Sept. 18th.

The building was named after Roy and Bess Mullet in recognition of lead gifts from Excel Industries and the Mullet family. Roy and Bess had five sons, each of whom personally supported the community project and spoke at the dedication ceremony on Sept. 7th.

“Mullet Place could not have come to fruition without the generous hearts, praying hands, and visionary minds of hundreds of individuals,” said James Krehbiel, CEO/President Bluestem Communities. “We are thankful to all those involved and are excited for our current and future residents.”

The driving motivation for the new building was to create private homes for every Schowalter Villa resident. Mullet Place provides residents with 24 new assisted living homes, resulting in 40 total assisted living homes and 98 private healthcare rooms on campus. In assisted living, there are now five floor plans to choose from at a variety of price points. Schowalter Villa also offers independent living with 226 homes on campus.

In addition to homes, Mullet Place includes two new classrooms for the Hesston Child Development Center, a gift shop and Hesston Bakery & Cafe. Schowalter Villa invites the greater community to enjoy the space, shop at Main Street Gifts and grab a bite to eat and a coffee at Hesston Bakery & Cafe.

“Mullet Place at Schowalter Villa is a place for people of all stages of life to come together,” said Krehbiel. “We are excited for what this space offers not only to our residents but the entire community.”

The project ground breaking occurred in April of 2017. Hutton Construction was the selected contractor and Alloy was the project architect.
