Jerol Schrag, chief financial officer at Bluestem Communities, was recently honored at the Wichita Business Journal’s CFO Awards. Schrag was acknowledged as a top CFO in the Wichita business community based on his dedication and service to Bluestem Communities, a family of non-profit retirement communities.
Just prior to his hiring, Schowalter Villa in Hesston and Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton merged in 2012 to become one of the largest Life Plan Communities in the Wichita marketplace. Bluestem Communities is currently the parent company for seven nonprofit corporations, which requires incredible financial oversight. One of the newest non-profit corporations is Bluestem PACE, located in McPherson.
“Bringing these corporations together has been a tremendous undertaking and Jerol has done a fantastic job,” said James Krehbiel, Bluestem CEO.
Schrag began his career in banking, but now enjoys working in long-term care. The field fits well with Schrag’s talents and values.
“My passion for helping people led me to banking and now long-term care in a non-profit,” said Schrag. “I enjoy brainstorming with people on how we can make our organization better and ‘looking into the numbers’ to see if it makes sense. This combination makes certain that no two days ever look the same for me at Bluestem.
Congratulations Jerol! A much deserved award.
