The new CMS 5-Star data was released on August 10th and LeadingAge New York has prepared a set of charts to provide insight into the impact the changes will have on each state.

  • Chart 1 includes the count of providers by overall star rating as well as a breakdown of each component per state by sponsorship type;
  • Chart 2 includes the percentage of providers by overall star rating as well as a breakdown of each component per state by sponsorship type;
  • Chart 3 includes the count of providers whose star levels have changed by sponsorship type; and
  • Chart 4 provides the percentage of providers whose star levels have changed by sponsorship type.

The data shows that there are large swings on the QM ratings in some states, however the ratings do not necessarily indicate that there will be a change in a provider’s star ranking. (i.e. dropping from a 4 star QM to a 3 star QM would not cause a provider to lose a star in their overall ranking.) This information is intended to help members understand what drives the changes in ranking and use it for quality improvement purposes.

LeadingAge Kansas is in the process of preparing updated provider-specific reports for members based upon the new data. Each member will receive 2 reports in late-August.  The first report will be based on July data and the second will be based on August. The comparison of July and August reports is intended to help members identify how the addition of the five new quality measures will affect their ratings.
