A new study, co-authored by LeadingAge’s Robyn Stone, DrPH, found despite the benefits of home-based clinical care and long-term services and supports, few homebound older adults use these services. The study included 974 homebound older adults who had at least 12 months of fee-for-service Medicare claims data prior to their interviews for the study. The study identified three distinct groups of patients using home based-services: high clinical with LTSS (8.9%), home health only with LTSS (44.5%) and low care and services (46.6%) – not one of these groups received high levels of all care types. Barriers to access sited in the study included lack of funding and differing access to HCBS state to state.
