After 37 years with Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Social Worker LouAnn Voth has retired.

“I have enjoyed my years at Buhler and have appreciated being given the opportunity to work here,” she said. “I thank my coworkers for the support, guidance, and friendships that have occurred through the years, and for all the many memories! One of the moments I remember is playing wheelchair baseball with the residents out in the parking lot. What fun to see staff pushing the residents around the bases and all laughing in delight. Being SMRC’s Social Worker has been a truly profound experience. Even the most difficult events and situations have been places for growth.”

Though Lou Ann admitted to some uncomfortable feelings about retiring – anxiousness about finding a new purpose in life, sadness to leave friends – – she is also excited about gaining freedom in time and schedule.

“I plan to be intentional in deciding what I want to do now that I’m grown up,” she said. “I have worked in 25 nursing homes in the past 37 years and have always believed Sunshine Home is the BEST!”

LouAnn will be visiting often for a while, as she works with SMRC’s new Social Worker, Becca Meitler, employed for the past six years by St. Francis Ministries of Hutchinson as a foster care worker. Becca, a Buhler native, has recently moved back into town, along with her husband, Sheldon, and their three children: daughter, Rylie, age four; son, Rein, two; and five-month-old daughter, Tegin.

“I love how Sunshine Meadows is mission-driven,” she said about her new employer.

LouAnn, we wish you well in your next chapter! Becca, we are looking forward to working with you!
