CMS Administrator Seema Verma announced on August 28th that she will publish a blog on each part of CMS’s plan to:

  1. Strengthen Oversight
  2. Enhance Enforcement
  3. Increase Transparency
  4. Improve Quality
  5. Put Patients over Paperwork

The first blog entry focuses on point 1, Strengthening Oversight. Among other things, Verma notes that the Agency took an important step in March 2019 toward improving State Survey Agency (SSA) consistency by issuing updated, streamlined guidance to SSAs regarding how to determine Immediate Jeopardy. They will also use an improved computer system to be looking more closely at states’ survey and enforcement results, to identify and address outlier states.
