Many members have been concerned about the interpretation of who is qualified to do fire door inspections in the nursing home. The Kansas Fire Marshal was insisting that maintenance personnel go through an expensive 9-day training course, and if the maintenance person did not go through this program, the provider must use a very expensive inspection company.

CMS has now confirmed that the 9 day DHI class is NOT required. If providers want to have someone qualified to do fire door inspections, there is a 1 hour NFPA 80 online training course that will suffice.

Find the online training here.
