Under federal law, nursing homes are inspected annually and fines are assessed for any deficiencies in compliance with federal regulations. If these fines exceed a certain level ($10,697 as of 2018), a nursing home automatically loses its authority to train certified nursing assistants for two years. H.R. 4468 is the second bill introduced to address this unfair penalty. It would end the mandatory 2-year lockout by authorizing that the training program be reinstated once the deficiencies for which the nursing home is cited are corrected. Congressman Ron Estes of Kansas is the primary Republican sponsor of the bill. Make sure to thank him!
