For the second time this year, SunPorch of Dodge City has earned the top rating in a state of Kansas Targeted Infection Control/COVID-19 Focused survey.
Zero deficiencies were found during the onsite surveys that focused on the virus. The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services conducted the first targeted infection control/COVID-19 survey at SunPorch last April.
The second was conducted recently at the short-term rehab and long-term-care residence at 501 W. Beeson Road.
“This reinforces the fact we are following our policies and procedures,” said Ryan Salinas, SunPorch administrator. “The team here at SunPorch of Dodge City does a fantastic job of keeping the safety of our elders the highest priority.
“And it is not just nurses who are following the strict guidelines,” he continued. “All staff members in each department are responsible for doing their parts in adhering to the protocols.”
Surveyors observed entry-screening processes; personal protective equipment procedures; hand hygiene; all processes pertaining to dining and other activities; COVID-19 testing; and basic activities-of-daily-living services.
In addition, the staff has enhanced cleaning and disinfection schedules, while infection-control training is ongoing, Salinas noted.
“This era of the pandemic has been quite difficult not only for our residents and their families, but also our team members,” Salinas said. “It is nice to be acknowledged by our licensing agency; it encourages the team to continue with perseverance. And we will continue to do so.
“The team has been great and has continued to focus on honoring and serving our elders. Everyone can be assured that SunPorch is committed to the safety and well-being of our elders during this pandemic and at all times.”
