The Committee on the Quality of Care in Nursing Homes is an important ad hoc committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will conduct an in-depth examination of how our nation delivers, finances, regulates, and measures the quality of nursing home care. The committee will develop a set of findings and recommendations to delineate a framework and general principles for improving the quality of care in today’s nursing homes, delivering high quality care in a consistent manner, and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and staff in nursing homes. The last time such an undertaking was pursued was in 1986, when the Institute of Medicine released the report Improving the Quality of Care in Nursing Homes. The current project is anticipated to last 15-18 months.

Rachel is a Kansas licensed attorney and adult care home administrator. She received her bachelor’s degree from Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, MA, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law. Over the years, Rachel has served in many volunteer roles in her community and in the state of Kansas to support senior needs, aging services education, and community mental health services. She is also a member of the Board of Governors for the Kansas Health Care Stabilization Fund. As an award-winning trial lawyer, turned award-winning senior care advocate, she has spent nearly two decades passionately supporting quality of care and quality of life for Kansas seniors.
