The Survey, Credentialing, and Certification Commission (SCCC) for KDADS hosted regional round tables across four different areas of the state last week. Survey data for Quarter 3 was reviewed and discussions around the top cited tags included improper handwashing and improper food labels.

Additionally, providers have seen an increase in harm level tags for incidents where staff did not follow the provider’s internal policy. Based on this information, LeadingAge Kansas would advise reviewing your internal policies annually to determine if any language is restrictive or incompatible with business operations as they stand today. The LeadingAge Kansas education team is reviewing this information to see if there are opportunities for professional development for members.

Additional items discussed were survey consistency issues among surveyors or regions and furthering collaboration between the state surveyors and providers after some providers mentioned having better communication with federal CMS surveyors. If you attended one of these sessions, send Kylee Childs your feedback on whether it was helpful or what we can do to help KDADS improve the sessions moving forward.
